The Role: Principal Avionics Engineer

What You Will Get To Do:

  • Lead the team that designs, develops, and implements avionics architectures for a range of hypersonic vehicles.
  • Expand the avionics team to support all Venus aircraft and propulsion flight projects and actively participate in growth and mentoring of the team
  • Perform hardware component trade studies and ensure avionics and vehicle system interfaces are well-defined and implementable
  • Develop avionics system verification plans and implement at subsystem and system level to ensure flight readiness
  • Ensure electronics designs meet all requirements and are built within cost and schedule constraints.
  • Actively participate in vehicle integration, ground testing, and flight-testing activities

What You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree, or higher, in an engineering discipline and at least 10 years of related engineering experience
  • Proven experience developing full design solutions for significant avionics or flight electrical systems
  • Systems engineering experience across multiple interacting hardware and software subsystems
  • Hands-on development and testing experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate and present technical material to various stakeholders
  • Ability to self-direct, self-manage and self-engage
  • Organized and able to calmly prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-oriented, rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to meet ITAR requirements

What Will Set You Apart:

  • 15+ years of related experience in experimental uncrewed, crewed, or FAA certificated flight systems.
  • Experience with software development standards and development methodologies
  • Familiarity with embedded flight code design
  • Experience with DO-254, DO-160 or MIL-STD-461 testing.
  • Hands on experience programming FPGA or ARM processors.
  • Experience with Autonomous Flight Safety Systems (AFSS).
  • Experience with system and component reliability assessments
  • An active, in-scope U.S. Government DoD clearance
  • Open to relocating to Houston if not currently in Houston.

Location:
