The Microfinance Accelerator Program (MAP) is an innovative program designed to support Christ-centered microfinance institutions to achieve sustainable growth through consulting, mentoring, training, and grants. As part of the MAP team, the senior specialist supports the program by identifying and evaluating potential microfinance institutions who meet the MAP eligibility criteria. The role’s geographical coverage is global, with the exception of the Asia region.

The senior specialist is responsible for developing and leading MAP engagement plans through effective collaboration with partners in his/her portfolio with a collective goal to achieve successful outcomes. The role involves rigorous coordination with internal and external subject matter experts to provide the necessary training for partners.

  • MAP Partner Recruitment
  • Support the Director of Global MAP in the search for potential MAP partners globally with the exception of Asia (managed by another senior specialist).
  • Facilitate meetings and introductions of prospective MAP partners.
  • Actively participate in the evaluation and recommendation of candidates.
  • Evaluation may include on-site due diligence of potential candidates.
  • MAP Partnership Management
  • Intentionally invest in building strong, God-honoring relationships with the MAP partner’s management team as well as internal teams at the HOPE central office.
  • Manage a portfolio of 8+ MAP partners and ensure the program bears fruit throughout the 2-year MOU of a typical MAP partnership.
  • Build and implement MAP engagement plan with the partner, including components on training/capacity building, milestone planning and tracking, monthly consulting calls, mentoring, etc.
  • Support the partner during the grant application and funds release process.
  • Liaise with partners on a monthly basis (during consulting calls) to follow up on challenges of implementation or new requests and keep records accordingly.
  • Act as focal point to collaborate with the internal or external experts for specific training and capacity building of partners.
  • Provide in-person training on selected topics to the partner at every visit. Be proactive in sourcing for training resources from internal subject matter experts to assist with the in-person training.
  • Lead the post-implementation review of metrics, impact assessment, and partner feedback to aid in the decisioning on next steps at the end of the MOU (expire, renew, or convert to regular partnership).
  • Provide timely feedback to the Director of Global MAP on any concerns relating to the MAP partnership.

  • Personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International.
  • Passionate about sharing the mission of HOPE and Christ-centered economic development.
  • Demonstrated a lifestyle of Christ-like humility, compassion, and empathy.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in financial services. Experience with microfinance is advantageous.
  • Exceptional level of initiative, drive, positivity, and a can-do attitude.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and partnership development skills.
  • Competency in empathetic listening and developing solutions to address needs and concerns.
  • Demonstrated ability to create relationships that thrive and flourish, and to influence without authority.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and willingness to perform administrative tasks.
  • International experience and strong cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally. Expected 10%-20% travel.
  • Fluency (both verbal and written) in English and Spanish required.

*Note on salary: HOPE International determines starting salary ranges based on internal equity and the external market. Because we take a market-based approach to pay, this salary range is specific to US-based employment. Hires made in other countries will have a salary range based on local market factors and this range will be disclosed during the interview process.
