ABOUT THE GIRLTREK MOVEMENT
GirlTrek is a grassroots, movement-building organization and is the largest and most inspiring non-profit organization for Black women’s health in the nation. With a membership of 1.2 million members, and counting, a viral podcast called Black History Bootcamp with close to 2M downloads and a volunteer infrastructure that directly serves thousands of the nation’s Blackest neighborhoods – GirlTrek’s influence is unmatched.
Overview: GirlTREK is seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer to join our technology team. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Maintaining and improving our mobile application, GirlTREK Underground, built with Flutter.
- Developing and maintaining microsites to support various strategic initiatives, likely using Elemental.
- Co-creating and prototyping concepts that emerge from our deeply collaborative and ambitious team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or someone early in their career to grow and develop their skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment. You will be the first full-time and in-house software engineer on our growing team.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and Improve Mobile Applications:
- Support and improve our existing mobile app built with Flutter.
- Collaborate with our external software development team, as we build in-house capacity and expertise.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues reported by users.
- Implement new features and updates based on user feedback and business needs.
- Collaborate with designers and product managers to ensure the app meets design specifications and user needs.
Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work with other developers, designers, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to bring new ideas to the team.
Represent GirlTREK Online and at Community Events:
- Model the mission and represent the organization online and in-person as a member of the national staff
- Participate in community walks and related GirlTREK events
- Serve as an ambassador for GirlTREK online and at such events
Who You Are
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Flutter and Dart for mobile app development.
- Familiarity with web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Basic understanding of responsive design principles.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Elemental or similar microsite building tools.
- Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
- Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with UI/UX design principles.

Compensation: Each role is benchmarked using national data and considers compensatory factors such as the expectations of the role and the required qualifications for the role. The candidate’s final compensation package is determined once the interview is concluded and accounts for the compensatory factors listed above, in addition to experience, competencies, physical location and GirlTREK’s annual winter sabbatical. The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000.
